Alvin C. Helland, age, 99, of Morris, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Pleasant View Healthcare in Ottawa.
Alvin was born at home on May 13, 1926, in Morris, to the late Bennie and Helen (Johnson) Helland.
Alvin was a well-known local farmer and businessman who began his career with his father, Bennie, at Helland Sales in Seneca, and later owned and operated Newark Truck and Tractor and Newark Ford, both in Newark, alongside his brother, Bennie.
Alvin was a lifelong member of Stavanger Lutheran Church where his parents were founding members. He was also a charter member to the Sons of Norway.
Alvin never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He had an excellent memory right up to the end of his life, and was an expert in recalling everyone's genealogy and family history.
He is survived by his children, Jerry (Joanne) Helland, Judy (the late Michael Stamm) Helland and Nancy (the late Jim) Pfeffer; his ten grandchildren, Dustin (Stephanie) Helland, Jason (Sara) Helland, Jeromy (Amanda) Helland, Jon (Kelly) Helland, Jessica (Brent) Labhart, Danelle Shouse, Ryan (Michelle) Helland, Cortney (Joey) Soto, Matt (fiancé Justine Ursua) Helland and Khloe Helland; 21 great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Jenelle Helland and Terri Helland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois (Erickson) Helland (1988); three sons, Jim, Roger, and Dale Helland; one daughter, Sandy Helland; and two brothers, Bennie and Joseph Helland.
Visitation for Alvin Helland will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of services at 1:00 p.m., at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 at Deerpath Drive in Morris. Interment in Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Stavanger Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
