Alvin "Al" Lee McFarland, 81, of Delaware and formerly of Ashley passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, May 18, 2025, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He was born June 1, 1943, in Chariton, Iowa to the late Keith Foster McFarland and Leota Marie (Denny) McFarland.
Al proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era and received his GED during his time in the military as well. On March 7, 1977, he married Elaine Getson. Together they shared 47 years of marriage.
Al worked in executive management and was a devoted and active member of the City of Delaware and Village of Ashley. He founded ACT Cable, AMC Telecommunications and Millennium Security. He coached women's basketball at Ohio Wesleyan University for 10 years, Delaware Hayes High School, St. Mary School and Marion Catholic High School for many years. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and a Subway Alumni member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #518 in Ashley.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Elaine; son, Kelly Michael (Laura) McFarland; daughters, Katrina McFarland and Karianne (Joseph "Joe") Maniaci; stepson, Jeff (Lynn) Hill; grandchildren, Jessica Cornett (Jesse Brown), Timothy Cornett, Joe (Kate) Hill, Katie (Jeff) Wells, Alexander McFarland, Brooke Manning, Leah Maniaci, and Ryan (Amanda) Maniaci; great-grandchildren, Lily Hill, Jameson Brown, Josie Brown, Janey Lee Brown, Tony Wells, Madison Wells, and Gianna Maniaci.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his stepson Gary Christopher Hill and his grandson Patrick Cornett.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Center, Delaware Chapel, 101 Valleyside Drive at W. William St., Delaware, where services celebrating Al's life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Ashley Union Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Delaware County Veterans Association and members of the United States Air Force.
