Alvin Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home on Sep. 19, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Alvin Monsrude Ward II, a fun-loving and faithful husband, father, uncle, and friend to many. Alvin, better known as Arch, to his family, was born on December 6, 1946, in Tacoma, WA, and passed away on September 11, 2025. He was a resident of Puyallup, Washington, for 20 years. In previous years, he resided in Auburn, Federal Way, and Shelton, Washington.

Following his graduation from Federal Way High School in 1966, Al was drafted into the Army. Sergeant Ward served from 1967 to 1969 as a supply clerk in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star medal.

Al worked for clothing and shoes companies as a store manager. As a ten-year-old, I took great pride in going to work with my dad one Saturday to help set up a new shoe store. Later, Al worked in the shipping warehouses of the Brown & Haley Candy Company. Despite long commutes to work, Al took the time to frequently drop his daughters off at school. Weekends were devoted to family activities, such as riding horses, attending County Fairs, and keeping the family cars running.

In retirement, Al enjoyed many RV trips around Washington and beyond. He loved getting out to explore new places and meet people. As one friend put it, Al "filled up a room" with his presence. He was a proud board member of the Metropolitan Car Club and loved attending classic car shows.

Al raised two daughters, Holly Ann Fleming and Rachel Joy Randall, with his first wife, Emily Jeanne Haynes. At the time of his death, he was married to Susan Marie Ulrickson. He is survived by his sister Dawn Wilkes, five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved spending time with their Uncle Archie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Naomi Ward, and his brother Donald Ward.

Alvin will receive Military Honors on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:30 am PDT at the Tahoma National Cemetery.
