Alvin William Wattenbarger, fondly known as Bill to friends and family, left this world peace- fully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on September 27, 1927, in San Bernardino, California, Bill's life was a rich tapestry of experiences and achievements that touched many hearts along the way. His final days were spent in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
Bill's early life was marked by his service to his country; he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947. His dedication to duty and country was a testament to his character, a thread that ran consistently through his life. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at CalPoly, which laid the foundation for his successful career. Bill's professional life included significant tenures at NCR and Farmers Insurance, where his contributions were both valued and impactful. His work ethic was surpassed only by his love for the great outdoors. Bill was an avid camper, hunter, fisher, and horse rider. His adventurous spirit found solace in the beauty and tranquility of nature. These interests allowed him to forge lasting bonds with fellow enthusiasts and to pass on his passion and respect for the environment to his children and grandchildren. Bill's legacy is carried on by his devoted children, Pam and Marc, his cherished eight grandchildren, and his eight great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His role as a family man was characterized by funny anecdotes, thoughtful advice, and unforgettable adventures, which will be treasured by his family for generations to come.
Those who knew Bill will remember him as a man of great humor, adventure, and thoughtfulness. His ability to bring laughter into any room, combined with his adventurous tales and the care he showed to those around him, will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Bill's life was a remarkable journey. He has left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the spirit of adventure that will forever be etched in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
