Alyce Faye Wellman Gaitten

AHOSKIE, NC - Alyce Faye Wellman Gaitten, age 88, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, North Carolina. Born on August 5, 1937, in Ohio, she lived a life full of warmth, love, and dedication to both her family and community.
Alyce dedicated many years of her life working as a dispatcher for the Murfreesboro Police Department, where she was known for her reliability and calm demeanor. Her contributions to the department were greatly appreciated and left a lasting impact on her colleagues.
Alyce was a woman of simple joys and deep love for nature. White daisies were her favorite flower, symbolizing purity and innocence, which perfectly mirrored her gentle spirit. She took great delight in bird watching, especially cherishing the hummingbirds that graced her garden. As long as her health permitted, she joyfully fed and watched them flit about, delighting in their delicate beauty.
Above all else, Alyce treasured her family. Her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were truly the apples of her eye. Spending time with them brought immense joy and fulfillment to her life, and she cherished every moment shared together. Alyce Faye Wellman Gaitten will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
Alyce is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Julia Wheeler Wellman, as well as her beloved husband, John Judson Gaitten. She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Deborah Gaitten Beard, and her husband Bobby of Ahoskie, NC; her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Beard and wife Laney of Kennesaw, GA, and Leigh Anne Morris and husband Brad of Ahoskie, NC; her adored great-grandchildren, Mason James Beard, Tristen Elizabeth Morris, and Julia Faye Morris; her sister, Connie Sue Davis, and her brother, Jim Wellman and wife Debbie, all of Circleville, Ohio, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A celebration of Alyce's life will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Willie McLawhorn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and at other times at their home.
