Alyce Ruth McGowan (née Cashman)
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of our beloved Alyce, who passed peacefully on August 15, 2025, at the age of 73, while held tenderly in the embrace of her family.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Alyce was the cherished daughter of the late Richard Cashman and Alice (Gleisner) Cashman, younger sister of the late June and Joan. Alyce's life was an ever-giving gift - defined by her boundless warmth, her generous spirit, her unshakable strength, and most importantly her unwavering, unconditional love for her family.
From birth, Alyce carried a light that shone from deep within - in her twinkling green eyes, in her warm, infectious smile, and the comfort of her nurturing embrace.
Alyce's legacy lives most vividly in the family she cherished above all. She lived each day with a love that flowed first and foremost to, and through, her children and grandchildren, who were the treasures of her life.
She was the devoted mother of her four children, whom she shared with Thomas McGowan - Keith (Christina), Alison, Maureen (Michael), and Caitlin (Percy) - and the proud and adoring grandmother of nine grandchildren - Rian, Timothy Michael, Josslyn, Percy, Sean, Juliet, Cashman, Jameson, and Finnegan. To each of them, she was their safe place, their first and last call, their cheerleader, and their fiercest supporter.
Alyce faced and overcame countless major health challenges with grace, courage, resilience, and her signature unassuming strength. She constantly proved she should never be underestimated. What carried her through was a superhuman love - the unshakable desire to be here together: to laugh, to hold, to witness, to give.
Alyce poured her heart into every moment with her children and grandchildren, whose laughter, stories, and milestones were the very light of her life. Nothing delighted her more than being "Mom" and "Mom Mom," titles she wore with pride and joy. She wrapped her family in a love that was boundless, unconditional, and ever-giving.
Her heart brimmed with childlike wonder for life's simple joys - the magic of Disney, the serenity of Ocean City, and the awe of the Christmas season - joys she wove seamlessly into her family's traditions, leaving them as cherished gifts for generations to come.
Rooted in a deep and unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, Alyce lived as a true disciple, showing her children and grandchildren what it meant to follow Him with trust, devotion, and love. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life, every single day: in the way she treated others, in the grace she extended, and in the joy she radiated.
A devoted parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Alyce gave herself fully to her community. For countless years she volunteered at St. Andrew School, later working in the front office for another two decades. She was described as the guardian angel to all of her nieces, nephews and grandchildren who were students there.
Her passing on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, feels like a tender sign from Heaven - that as our Heavenly Mother was welcomed body and soul into glory, so too was our earthly mother welcomed into the loving embrace of God.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, followed by her Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Interment will follow at Olde St. Andrew's Cemetery in Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made in Alyce's honor to St. Andrew Catholic School (standrewcec.com).
