Alyce Marie Myrtue, the daughter of Francis Edward and Clara May (Belt) Van Cleave, was born on November 21, 1924, in Arcadia, Nebraska. When Alyce was a young girl, her family moved to Crescent, Iowa, where she started school. She graduated from Logan (Iowa) High School in 1942, and began teaching country school near Persia, Iowa. During this time, she boarded with a local family, and it was there she met their son, Robert Lee Davis. Robert and Alyce married on August 31, 1944, at the Harlan (Iowa) Methodist Parsonage.

Alyce and Robert farmed north of Shelby, Iowa, and Alyce taught at the Shelby Elementary School. Robert died on October 24, 1986, in Shelby. On September 1, 1990, Alyce married Willis Martin Myrtue in Harlan, Iowa; he died on September 29, 2000, in Harlan.

Alyce was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Harlan. She also held memberships in the Iowa Teachers Association and the Shelby American Legion Post #240 Auxiliary. Alyce was a true "people person" who had many friends and especially loved children. She liked to stay active, and was an avid bowler until the age of 90. Alyce also enjoyed reading, and had an interest in Cardinal birds.

Alyce M. Myrtue died on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She had reached the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 23 days.

Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husbands, Robert Lee Davis and Willis Martin Myrtue, respectively; six brothers; one sister; one grandson, Jarod Davis; and one son-in-law, Scott Goetzinger. She is lovingly survived by one son, Robert L. (Carolyn) Davis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two daughters, Jill M. (Brian) Tunge of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and Connie A. Goetzinger of Grinnell, Iowa; one brother, Rhue Dean (Bea) Van Cleave of Tygh Valley, Oregon; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
