Amada Christina Martinez entered eternal life on August 1, 2024. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 9, 1951, to Concepcion and Raymond Hernandez. She was three of five girls. She attended St. Henry's Catholic School for one year before transferring to St. James Catholic School until she graduated middle school in 1965. She went on to attend St. Francis Academy and graduated high school in 1969. Once done with school, she joined her family that had already moved to Houston, Texas. She enrolled in San Jacinto Nursing Program, completing it in 1971 and began to work as a LVN nurse at St. Joseph Hospital. While attending nursing school, she met the love of her life Carlos S. Martinez. They soon married in December 1971 through the courts and by the church on May 27, 1972. They worked hard to build a life together in Houston that created three children, Carlos Jr., Carmen and Reuben. She was proud of her life with her viejo, traveling as often as they could. They both made many sacrifices to give their children a better life and experiences than what they had growing up. In 2001, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma being given a small chance of survival. She fought a good fight and successfully beat cancer a few years later. Amada or Maddie as she was often called by those close to her, worked for over 47 years as nurse, officially retiring in 2018 from a pediatric practice. She was an avid reader, she enjoyed watching tv, attending church, liked to garden, going to the beach with her family and especially cooking meals for her family which brought them together often. Her grandchildren were her twinkle in her eye and would bring her so much joy.
She is preceded in death by her mom, Concepcion Hernandez, her husband Carlos S. Martinez, her son Carlos Jr., and her father, Raymond Hernandez.
She is survived by her daughter Carmen Castellano (Benjamin), her son, Reuben Martinez (Belinda), her grandchildren, Angel Casillas, Alessandro Castellano and Isabella Castellano as well as her sisters, Vickey Martinez, Pat Hernandez, Maggie Castillo and Teresa Esparza and numerous extended family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Felix H. Morales Funeral Home, Houston, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Cremation will take place at a later date.
