We sadly announce Amalia’s passing on February 3, 2013, in her 86th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Gino, of 57 years, she was the dear mother, mother-in-law and nonna to Danny, Cheryl, Marina, Shauna, Michael and Daniel and Gabriel, Julie, Lauriane and Anabel. Amalia is survived by her siblings Filomena (Francesco) Spina, Elisa (Leone) Velenosi, Francesco (Gisela) and Giovanni (Gina) and predeceased by her brothers Primo (Vittoria), Gildo, Giacinto (Ada), Emidio (Maria), Giuseppe (Maria), Pasquale and her sister Emidia. Amalia immigrated to Canada and married Gino in 1952 and together they worked to build a better life in a new country. Amalia was not afraid to try new things: she loved culinary experiments and she learned how to read patterns, often making her own dresses. Amalia’s life was surrounded by the love of her family and friends. We will always cherish the love she had for us and remember her devotion to her family. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends here, in Italy and Australia and we are sincerely grateful to all our relatives and friends for their support, care and compassion. We would also like to thank all the health care professionals and personal support care staff at Extendicare Hamilton. Friends may call at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Ave. E., on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass at Regina Mundi Roman Catholic Church, 631 Mohawk Rd. W., on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 10:00 am. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Such a beautiful lady!
Zia Amalia, Thank you for all the beautiful memories which no one can ever take away from us.
I will never forget my visits to your lovely home in Hamilton.
We will all cherish the special times together here in Australia too. For me, the highlight was sitting next to you on the train to Bundaberg, chatting and chatting for hours on that long journey and not being bored for one minute. I remember how you insisted on helping me make and cut out my classroom wall displays, in preparation for the new school year and what we talked about as we worked. I remember how happy Dad was when you were around. You really appreciated everything here - the Australian wildlife, the Great Barrier Reef, the beaches...but most of all, the sunshine and warmth in January!
I wish I could have come to Canada to give you one more hug but one day I'll see you in an even nicer place, after I've reached my 80s hopefully too!
You are with zio Gino again now. You two are great marriage role models for all of us. Zio Gino used to say, "Io e Amalia non seme mai litigato."
Please give him a hug and also a hug to nonna Anna Maria, nonno Bernardino and all the aunts and uncles.
REST IN PEACE ZIA. Lots of love forever, Dina, Frank, Beatrice, Lidia, Emilia & Max xxxxxx

We will remember Zia Amalia as a quiet, well dressed woman with a big heart. She loved her family and was a wonderful cook. We will miss her, but know that she is now reunited with her loving husband, Zio Gino. They were a true example of a beautiful marriage. Together again, they will be hosting many dinners for family and friends.
She will forever be in our hearts and memories.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Our deepest sympanthy to you all.
Anna, Bob and Robert Butrym
