Mrs. Amanda Nesbitt McCormick of the Kempville Community departed this earthly life at the age of 49 at her Kempville Highway home following a two-year battle with cancer. She was pronounced deceased at 3:44 a.m. Monday morning September 22, 2025 at the Highpoint-Health Riverview Emergency Room.
Mrs. McCormick is at the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where her funeral services are schedule to be conducted on Thursday morning September 25th at 11 a.m. Her pastor, Bro. Bryan Bratcher and Amanda's cousin, Bro. Scott Nesbitt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gazebo Garden at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McCormick's family will receive friends at Sanderson in Kempville on Wednesday afternoon September 24th from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Thursday after 9 a.m.
She was the youngest of three children, two daughters and a son, of Amelia Kemp Nesbitt Copas of the Hermitage Springs Community in Clay County and the late Roger Gray Nesbitt who died at the age of 59 on April 11, 2001 and was born Amanda Deshaye Nesbitt at the former Smith County Hospital in Carthage on December 20, 1975.
Mrs. McCormick was saved at the age of 9 under the ministry of the late Eld. William Johnson and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Bide Russell Missionary Baptist Church in the Riddleton Community.
At the time of her death, she was a member of the Kempville Chapel Old Time Methodist Church where she also was a member of the church choir.
Mrs. McCormick was a 1994 graduate of Smith County High School. There she was a member of the Beta Club, Students Against Drunk Driving, Future Business Leaders of America was a member of the band her freshman & sophomore year, the chorus her senior year, studied French her freshman and sophomore year, math and science her junior year and was a member of BPA her senior year.
Mrs. McCormick was a 2020 graduate from Vol State Community College with an Associates of Applied Science in Medical Billing and Coding.
At the Kempville Highway family home on August 4, 2007, she was united in marriage to Defeated Creek Community native, Ronald Keith (Ronnie) McCormick by Bro. Scott Nesbitt.
Mrs. McCormick was employed at Taiho Manufacturing of Tennessee, Inc. for over 25 years, for Vanderbilt Wilson for 1 year, and was a medical coder for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, an occupation since May of 2022.
Surviving in addition to her mother Amelia and her husband James Copas and Amanda's husband Ronnie of over eighteen years, are three children, Lindsey McGowan Allmon and husband Adam of the Tanglewood Community, Andrew Derek Davis of the Pleasant Shade Community, Eli Grayson McCormick, a freshman at Smith County High School, and resident of the Kempville Community; brother, Joey Nesbitt and wife Kandi of the Bagdad Community, two grandchildren, Jaxon Reece and Declan Allmon and her life long friend and classmate, Crystal Nesbitt Brown.
Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by a sister, Kim Nesbitt Moore who died August 2, 1985 at the age of 24 as the result of a traffic accident on Dixon Springs Highway near the Green Hills Country Club.
Her son Andrew was preceded in death by his father, James Derek Davis who died of cancer on September 14, 2006 at the age of 35 and her daughter Lindsey was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Darrell McGowan who died at the age of 33 on February 26, 2003.
The McCormick family requests memorial be made to the Eli McCormick College Fund.
