Edgar Bastien, age 86, of Moorestown, NJ passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in Marlton, NJ.
Mr. Bastien was born in Gonaives, Haiti and had resided in Brooklyn, NY for more than 30 years before moving to Moorestown.
Mr. Bastien was a well-regarded attorney in Haiti but chose not to practice law when he emigrated to the United States in 1970. At the dawn of the computer age, Mr Bastien was excited to take a position in Merrill Lynch's information technology division. He worked there until his retirement elevating to managing the research division on Wall Street. At that time he returned to his hometown of Gonaives, where for nine years he worked tirelessly to restore his town. He came back to the US, moving to South Jersey where a number of his children had relocated. He was the founder of Eclair, which was the all-star soccer team in Gonaives. He founded a number of charitable organizations in New York, including ALGO, Konbit Gonaives. Their mission was helping Gonaives.
When Edgar wasn’t involved with soccer, and Gonaives, his other interests were mathematics, politics and watching television cop shows and mysteries. He was also an avid reader, in fact he passed away with his kindle by his side.
Edgar is survived by his children, Mr. Axel Bastien, Dr. Arnaud Bastien, Mr. Youri Bastien, Dr. Pascale Bastien, Mr. Edgar Bastien, Jr and Mrs. Myriam Frederick; his grandchildren, Alexandre, Stephanie, Noah, Ethan, Olivier, Samantha, Kenan, Tyler, Elijah and Makayla.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 8:30 to 10:30 AM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM also on Friday, December 2nd at Our Lady Queen of Peace RC Church, 1603 Marne Highway, Hainesport, NJ. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Edgar’s name may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace at the above address or to the Robin's Nest in Glassboro, NJ at http://www.robinsnestinc.org/.
