Amerylis "Amy" Crocker Epps, aged 88, of
Spotsylvania, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and her dedicated caregivers.
Born in
Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Amy was raised in her beloved hometown of Emporia, Virginia. A proud graduate of Emporia High School, Class of 1955, she carried the steadfast friendships and community values of her youth throughout her entire life. Following high school, she attended Longwood College before marrying the love of her life, Robert R. "Bobby" Epps, Sr., in 1957, while he was serving as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
As a devoted Marine wife, Amy was the silent anchor of her family through the trials of military life. She navigated the challenges of Bobby's multiple deployments to Vietnam and long periods of overseas service with an unwavering grace. While her husband served his country, Amy served her family, creating a stable, loving home regardless of the distance or difficulty.
Amy and Bobby shared 54 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. In the fourteen years that followed, she continued to live a life full of joy and simple pleasures. She was a woman of gentle warmth and a gifted listener with a remarkable memory; she had a unique way of making others feel truly heard, often remembering the small details of their lives that others might overlook. Amy could often be found enjoying a classic episode of Matlock, catching The Price is Right, or-most passionately-cheering on her Washington Commanders. A dedicated fan through every season of winning or losing, her loyalty to her team was a testament to her spirited nature.
A long-time member of Eley's Ford Baptist Church, Amy cherished the deep-rooted fellowship she and Bobby found within their church community. Above all, her greatest earthly joy was found in her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Lyon (David); her son, Steven Epps; and her daughter-in-law, Tecia Epps Sisk (Larry). She was the cherished grandmother of Whitney Gambel, Nicholas Lyon (Katherine), Lucas Lyon (Rachel), Robert Epps (Samantha), and Morgan Schultz (Kevin). Her legacy of love will live on through her many great-grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert R. Epps, Sr.; her son, Robert R. Epps, Jr.; her daughter, Amy Sue; and her brother, Robert Crocker.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Thursday, April 2 at Eley's Ford Baptist Church, 10401 Elys Ford Road,
Fredericksburg, VA 22407. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM. Burial will take place in Quantico National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband in eternal peace.
