With profound sorrow and aching hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved son, Ammon Rah Whalin, who departed this life on October 15, 2025, at the age of 20. Born on February 5, 2005, in Kotzebue, Alaska, Ammon was a radiant soul whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and meaning to all who knew him.
In 2016, Ammon moved with his family to Liberty County, Texas, where he built lasting friendships and found new passions. He attended Hardin Junior High and graduated from Hardin High School in 2023. While in high school, Ammon worked at both Whataburger and Sonic, showing a strong sense of responsibility and independence. Driven by his love for fast and loud cars, he enrolled at Universal Technical Institute in Houston to study automotive technology. He was still striving to complete his certification, determined to turn his passion into a career. Ammon lived life with boldness and flair. He had a deep love for roaring engines, designer clothing-especially hoodies and shoes-and anime dolls that spoke to his appreciation for art and storytelling. He was known for his extravagant and bold tattoos, each one a reflection of his creativity and fearless self-expression. Known affectionately by friends and family as the "photo bomb ninja," Ammon had a knack for sneaking into pictures with perfect timing-leaving behind laughter and unforgettable memories.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life-hanging out in malls with friends, soaking in the energy of the crowd, and cruising through downtown Houston on electric stand-up scooters, embracing the freedom and thrill of the ride. Above all, Ammon loved football and basketball. Whether he was playing, watching, or talking about the game, his enthusiasm was contagious.
Ammon had a sweet spot for the little things that made him smile-his favorite Starbucks order was a pink drink with cold foam, paired with a double-smoked bacon, cheddar, and egg sandwich. His favorite color was purple, a reflection of his bold and vibrant personality. He cherished his dad's BBQ, beans and rice, and his mom's cabbage soup-meals that brought comfort, warmth, and the taste of home.
He is survived by his father, Sherman Lewis; his mother, Miranda Lewis; his sister, Marie; and his brothers Walter, Landon, Toby, Morgan, Zachary, and Aiden. He is also survived by his grandparents Rick Lewis, Billy Wilson, Anna Whalin, and Myron Whalin-and by too many aunts, uncles, and cousins to name, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Ammon was preceded in death by his brothers Timothy and Andy; his biological father, Scotty Whalin; and his grandparents Chris and Marie Jones, and Rachel Ramsey.
Though his time with us was far too short, the love Ammon gave and the light he shared will remain in our hearts forever. His memory will live on in the stories we tell, the lives he touched, and the love that continues to surround him.
Viewing will be held at New Life Assembly of God on Wednesday October 22, 2025 between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM The funeral will be held Thursday October 23, 2025 at 12:00 PM, and interment will follow directly after the Funeral Service and will be held at Guedry.
