Amy Mae "Whipple" Asche

Amy Mae Asche was born on February 21st, 1933, in Humboldt to Earl George and Beulah (Williams) Whipple. She was raised in Dakota City and graduated from Humboldt with the class of 1951. Throughout her life, she was known for her quiet strength, steadfast determination, and a deep commitment to caring for others.

Amy devoted 35 years of her professional life to working as a Certified Medical Assistant. Nursing and caregiving were lifelong passions, and she found great purpose in helping others through her work in healthcare at Rotary Senior Living and as an Emergency Medical Technician.

She was first married to Arlan McPherson, with whom she shared five children: Arlan (Arley), Michael (Bing), Ricky, Laurie, and Melanie. She later married Larry Asche in July 1972, who preceded her in death in 2008.

Outside of her career, Amy found joy in sewing and crocheting. Her hands were rarely still, and she lovingly created many baby blankets that became treasured gifts for family and friends. These small handmade pieces carried the warmth and generosity that defined her life.

She was fiercely independent, hardworking, and determined. Though she endured many losses and hardships throughout her years, she met life with resilience and grace. No matter the day's challenges, she was known to close the day with a smile and her familiar words: "One day at a time."

Amy passed away peacefully on March 4th, 2026 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 93.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law: Shannon McPherson; her son-in-law: Rick Clay; her grandchildren: Abigail Portillo, Jessica (Chris) Kelly, Lance McPherson, Tara (Justin) Locke, Amber (Joel) Wolff, Elicia Beenken, Ricky McPherson (Dessa), Nikita (Nick) Ehlts, and Courtney Clay (AJ); many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many other loved ones who will remember her kindness, strength, and steady presence.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her children: Arley McPherson, Michael McPherson, Rick McPherson, Laurie McPherson, Melanie Clay; her parents: Earl George and Beulah; her siblings: Earline, George, and Roberta; and grandchildren: Tyler and Lucias.

A visitation will be held at Foust Funeral Home on March 21st, 2026 at 10 am with a memorial service to follow at 11 am.
