Amy Jo Lackey was born April 17, 1953, and passed away January 13, 2026, at the age of 72.
Amy Jo Lackey - Babcock was a beloved mother, grandmother, and Registered Nurse. She was a gem of a person who was a straight shooter, courageous and warm hearted. Amy stood firm in Jesus in the face of adversity never wavering in her faith, even in spite of the hardships and pain she experienced in her life. Amy persevered against all odds until her last day on earth. She attended First United Pentecostal Church in
Orange, Texas for many years, and loved Jesus with all her heart. She possessed many talents and was absorbed in her projects most of the time. Amy made the most of each day of her life and there was never a dull moment when she was around. She was very intelligent and pursued furthering her knowledge throughout her life. Amy also had a natural talent for styling hair of all kinds. She would style hair for many out of the kindness of her heart. Skilled in arts and crafts, she enjoyed creating necklaces, bracelets, hats, designing clothes, and all kinds of jewelry. She also made the best peanut butter brittle. Amy sparkled as did her personality! Her other many talents were landscaping, gardening, and planting. She also loved adventures such as flying all the way to Germany to visit her daughter and taking a train to Tucson, Az to attend the birth of her grandson.
An RN for many years, nursing was Amy's life's purpose. She put service to others above self. Amy loved her patients and viewed them as part of her family. Amy was a force of nature and, at times, also a force to be reckoned with. She was very determined and when she made up her mind, no obstacle could stop her. Amy blazed her own trail. The family derives comfort knowing, without a doubt, that Amy is dancing around the throne of Jesus. She was and is deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

HYMN 17
"O For An Overcoming Faith"
1 Corinthians 15:55 " O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"
O for an overcoming faith
To cheer my dying hours;
To triumph o'er the monster Death,
And all his frightful powers!
Joyful with all the strength I have
My quiv'ring lips should sing-
Where is thy boasted vict'ry, Grave?
And where the monster's sting?
If sin be pardoned, I'm secure,
Death hath no sting beside;
The law gives sin its damning power;
But Christ, my ransom, died.
Now to the God of victory
Immortal thanks be paid,
Who makes us conquerors while we die,
Through Christ our living head.
She is survived by her daughter, Deon "DeDe" Lackey; her son, Damon Lackey and wife Holly; grandchildren, Ethan Madsen, Kailey Martinez and husband John, and Parker Lackey; great grandchildren, John and Joy; mother, Georgia Conway - Lusich; brothers, Galen Babcock, and Paul Kowalik; uncle, Floyd "Skipper" Conway, Jr.; and nephew, Dude Babcock, and Marshall Babcock.

"Victory Over Death"
John Donne
Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not soe,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill mee.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.
