Claudia Lea Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home on Mar. 10, 2026.
Claudia Jean Lea, age 74, was born on October 4, 1951, to Geneva (Cook) Hickson and was raised by her father, Ernest "Dick" Hall, and mom, Patti (Casper) Hall. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2026, at her home in Orange, Texas.
Claudia was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Vidor, Texas.
She was married to Dr. James "Jim" Lea for 55 years. Together they faithfully served as pastor and pastor's wife in churches across Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, and Kansas for over 50 years of ministry.
Claudia's strong and beautiful singing voice greatly enriched worship services throughout the years. She loved Southern Gospel music and enjoyed attending several Southern Gospel concerts.
Claudia also worked part-time as a nurse and was affectionately known as the "Singing Nurse." She seemed to have a song for nearly every occasion, and when one didn't exist, she would happily make one up.
As a talented seamstress, Claudia made many of her own clothes and enjoyed quilting. Her wonderful sense of humor brought joy to those around her, as she could find something to laugh about in nearly any situation. She also enjoyed water exercise and treasured the friendships she made while participating.
Claudia is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jim Lea of Orange, Texas; her son, Sergeant First Class, Ross Lea and wife Kari of Sierra Vista, Arizona; her daughter, Dr. Ginger Blacksmith and husband Chris of Greenbrier, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Leroy Hall and wife Brenda of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends; and especially, Susan Peninger and Timothy Fish.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Hall; her mother, Geneva Hickson; and her mom, Patti Hall.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 890 Evangeline Drive, Vidor, Texas. Brother Dave Parks will be officiating.
Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Russell Baptist Church, 309 East Main Street, Russell, Arkansas. Brother Roger Cole will be officiating. Interment to follow at Carter Cemetery, Russell, Arkansas.

Claudia was an easy person to like and to love. She had a deep compassion for unborn children. She and Jim seemed like a well matched couple. Claudia will be dearly missed by those who knew her.
Rest in Jesus“ arms dear Claudia.

We at Southeast Texas Right to Life have been just a few of the thousands of people who have had the greatest blessing of calling Claudia our friend. I, personally, could always feel the love and joy of Jesus Christ flowing from her through her smile, laughter, voice and words. Just being in her presence was like a stress-reliever. I kind of feel sorry for those who missed the opportunity to have met Claudia. Lowell/Sheila Walker and all of us will miss her.
