Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory on Aug. 29, 2025.
Born on December 30, 1929, in
Columbia, Missouri, Amy was the daughter of Pleas Carson Morris and Minnie (Crane) Morris. She was raised on a farm, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work, family, and the simple joys of country life. As a girl, Amy milked cows, tended sheep, chopped and loaded wood, rode horses, and even sang and yodeled on a local radio show, showcasing a spirit full of life and creativity.
Amy had a deep love for painting, especially religious scenes, portraits, and wildlife. Using both acrylic and oil paints, she found joy and fulfillment in expressing her faith and love of nature through her art. Amy once hand painted 80 cards for River Blenders Chorus members with a penny in each card wishing them Good Luck at their International A Cappella singing competition.
Amy was a proud graduate of U-High (University of Missouri High School), Class of 1948. She dedicated much of her life to serving her community. Her first job was at Ar-Cel Garment factory as a seamstress, then she worked in the cafeterias at Jeff Junior High School and West Boulevard Elementary while her children attended. Amy also served as a registrar at Jesse Hall on the University of Missouri campus. She always had a warm smile and kind words for students and staff alike. Amy's final job was working for her daughter and son-in-law at Good Trails Inc, Motorcycle/ATV Dealership for many years.
Amy was a caregiver all her life. She was always taking care of someone and thinking of someone else above herself. Amy never met a stranger. Everywhere Amy went she would strike up a conversation. And if you ever met or talked to Amy, you were going to get a hug.
Family was at the center of Amy's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always placing the needs of her loved ones above her own. At sporting events or musical performances, Amy was always in attendance and the loudest cheerleader and #1 fan of her children and family. Amy's life was one of quiet dedication, faith, and love. Her warmth, generosity, and enduring strength will be dearly missed.
Amy Nichols leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, devotion and love that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Howard V. Nichols Sr.; her son, Jerry R. Nichols; her brother, Junior Morris; and her sisters, Helen Kellogg, Gertrude McDaniel, and Opal Morris.; grandson Dean Nichols and son-in- law, Kenneth Kreigh.
