Amy Miller Schirm, 70, of Anamosa, died peacefully Friday afternoon, May 30, 2025, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa. Rev. Holly Knouse will officiate. The burial will be held privately at a later date. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Amy Sue Miller Schirm was born October 28, 1954, in Anamosa, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Ogden) Miller. She graduated from Anamosa High School in the Class of 1973. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from AIB College of Business in Des Moines. She worked as a legal assistant for Jay Willems and retired after four decades of service.
She was a longtime member of the church, where she shared her incredible vocal talents in the choir. Amy enjoyed walking in Wapsi State Park with her mother, movies, all types of music, and spending time with her grandsons. She was a gifted baker, sharing her famous cookies with many in town. She was a faith-filled soul who loved spending time with and caring for her family.
She is remembered by her loving partner Craig Pilcher, sons Matt (Jessica) Schirm, and Andy (fiancé Erica Roberts) Schirm, grandsons Anderson, Gabriel, and Langston, her siblings Dan (Julie) Miller, Becky (Kim) Beardsley, Lee (Teri) Miller, and Tim Miller, as well as by several nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death.
Special thanks to Dr. Samuel Wood and the amazing staff at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center and to Mercy Hospice for their compassionate care during Amy's illness.
Memorials in Amy's honor may be sent to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa or to the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center in Cedar Rapids.
My life goes on in endless song
Above earth's lamentations,
I hear the real, though far-off hymn
That hails a new creation.
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear it's music ringing,
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?

Amy was a beautiful girl. I say girl because she will always be young to those who knew and loved her. She was as beautiful inside as she was outside. She was sweet, thoughtful, caring and a good friend . . . a person of high integrity and impeccable character. She is likely walking with Betty right now. She will be missed.
