Amy Hamilton Steele passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 50. Amy lived life to the fullest for nearly two years following her cancer diagnosis, making the most of her remaining time with family and friends.
Amy's passion for life was obvious to everyone around her. Behind Amy's shining eyes and confident smile was an amazing wit, humor, and positivity ready to brighten the darkest of days. To encounter Amy meant you were destined for a laugh and were sure to leave in a good mood. She radiated kindness and had a deep caring for all, friends and strangers alike. Amy believed that the world needed more love and she lived by the philosophy of 'love hard'.
Amy was born in
Falmouth, MA in early July. To announce her birth, her grandparents flew a pink towel in the rigging of their sailboat visiting Quissett Harbor. Amy adored her summers sailing at Quissett Yacht Club, working at the boatyard, and summer beach days around the harbor. Amy's true love was time spent on the water around the Cape and Islands. Whether it was sailing on her family's catboat, racing at QYC, fishing with her kids, or family overnights on the boat, she cherished nothing more than her days spent on the water.
Amy met her future husband, Eric Steele, in 1993 while working together at MacDougalls' Marine in Falmouth. They went on to date for many years and finally were married at St. Thomas Chapel on Falmouth Harbor in 2008.
Amy's creativity and passion for writing, art, and photography grew while attending Roger Williams University. Amy worked as a photographer for much of her life, including for the Falmouth Enterprise. In 2004, she opened the Pistils and Anthers Gallery in
San Francisco, CA, which showcased her unique style of macrophotography, focusing on flowers and other elements of the natural world. Amy went on to create Cape Codfish, a lifestyle clothing brand which was inspired by active Cape summer days.
Amy was an avid skier and worked as a childrens ski instructor at Keystone Resort, CO. She loved skiing with friends and family, and enjoyed time spent at their home in
Killington, VT.
Gardening was an obsession for Amy. She curated many vegetable and flower gardens around the family's home. Amy's beautiful Dahlias were the pride of her garden. She would regularly gift fresh cut flowers to friends, nursing homes, and almost anyone she thought might enjoy them.
Above all, Amy's favorite thing in the world was being a mother. She often described motherhood as her calling and worked tirelessly to provide the best for her children. Her creativity and spirit live on in them.
Amy leaves behind a lifetime of love, adventures, and laughs. She will be incredibly missed by all who knew her.
Amy is survived by her husband Eric Steele of
Falmouth, MA, her children Hayden and Holt Steele, her parents Reed and Linda Hamilton of East
Falmouth, MA, and two sisters Megan Hamilton (Brennon) McKeon of East
Falmouth, MA, and Carolyn Hamilton (Ryan) Faucette of Lynnfield, MA. Amy also leaves behind two nieces, one nephew, and many other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Cape Kid Meals, P.O. Box 36,
Osterville, MA 02644, capekidmeals.org. Cape Kid Meals, where Amy served as a volunteer, collaborates with school staff to provide confidential food deliveries to families in need.
