Amy Tutell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2025.
June 9, 1974 - October 18, 2025 In the early morning hours of October 18, 2025, our earth angel, Amy Marie (Amavisca) Tutell, returned to her place in Heaven.

Amy was a loving and devoted wife to Seth, and a proud mother to Gavin Aaden and Trent Jameson. To all who knew her, Amy was a kind, caring, and compassionate friend. We could confide in her-sharing our secrets, troubles, and worries-and she was always ready to console, advise, or go to battle for us. Her sense of humor was infectious; she made us laugh until our sides ached. She even kept a microphone in her vehicle to "treat" us to her "singing" talents on road trips.

Born in Sterling, Colorado, Amy was the eldest daughter of John and Loretta Amavisca. A curious and mischievous tomboy, she affectionately referred to herself as the "trouble girl." She spent her childhood on her family's five acres in Yuma, where she loved riding horses, and in Somerton, playing in the backyard of her grandparents' home with her little sister. Amy graduated from Cibola High School in 1993, where she was an active member of the FFA. After high school, she worked for several years as a veterinary technician at Chaparral and Gila Veterinary clinics before pursuing a career in the fire service.

In a male-dominated field, Amy earned a reputation as a tough firefighter and exceptional paramedic at Rural Metro and MCAS. She was also known for her practical jokes-once smearing peanut butter on her coworkers' vehicle door handles for a surprise at the end of their shift.

While working at MCAS, Amy met the love of her life, Seth Tutell. Seth often said he "married up," but in truth, they found their soulmates in each other. After marrying in 2008, Amy left the fire service to raise their boys and create a home filled with laughter, delicious meals, and boundless love.

While staying home to raise her children, Amy discovered her creative passion and launched Sugar High Cake Shop, where she baked and decorated stunning, delicious cakes, cupcakes, and treats for family, friends, and the Yuma community.

Amy is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, John and Loretta Amavisca; her grandparents, Colonel and Irene Amavisca and Buck and Faye DeLaughter; and her father-in-law, Gene Tutell. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Seth Tutell; her sons, Gavin and Trent; her sisters, Kelly Thwing (Jeremy) and Danielle Opfenring Amavisca Echols (Jacob); dozens of cousins; and hundreds of friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 2nd at Stone Ridge Church 6300 E. 24th St., Yuma, Arizona at 2pm, followed by a reception at Villa de la Meza 2613 E County 16th St., Yuma, AZ starting at 4pm.
