Amy Vitosh Obituary
Amy Christine Peterson Vitosh, 34, of North Liberty, passed away on February 2, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital following complications from ongoing complex illnesses.
Amy was born on December 10, 1991 in Iowa City and was the beloved daughter of Rebecca "Becky" Peterson and Leo Vitosh.
Amy had a deep love of music, especially the band Otherwise, where she formed meaningful friendships that became like family to her. She loved going to concerts and saw Otherwise nearly 30 times. She cherished the community of fans she called her "music family." Amy also had a special bond with animals, especially her emotional support pets – her pug, Chance and cat, Pumpkin, who passed in 2021 as well as her beloved cats, Aiden and Jinx.
Amy was known for her kind heart, loyalty and unwavering support of those she loved. She was a genuine friend who forgave easily, never judged and stood by the people closest to her. She will be deeply missed.
Amy is survived by her parents: Becky Peterson and Leo Vitosh; her closest friends: Amanda (Paul) Lambert, Shelby (Tyrone) Johnson, Lea Barbary, Callie Foster and Mary Beth Johnson; Adrian and Ryan Patrick of Las Vegas from the band, Otherwise and former Otherwise member, Brian Medeiros; special little friend, Aria Johnson as well as many close and fellow Otherwise fans and online friends that she considered family; her emotional support cats: Aiden and Jinx and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, her beloved pets: Chance and Pumpkin; uncles: Curt and Phil Peterson and her aunts: Barb Hemmer, Sandi and Marian Peterson as well as her childhood cat, Sweetie – a stray they adopted when Amy was two whom she named herself.
After choosing comfort-focused care, Amy's parents and closest friends held a living wake with her in her ICU room. It was a cherished time to surround her with love while she was still here. No formal services are planned.
