Kimberly Dawn Gilstrap, 66, of Kalona, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026, at The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Interment of cremated remains will take place later in Seneca-Cayuga Nation in Oklahoma.

Kimberly was born on November 5, 1959, in Joplin, Missouri to parents Frank Taylor Gilstrap and Shirley R. Hewerton Gilstrap.

She was a graduate of Iowa City West High School. Following high school, Kimberly graduated with a BA degree in English from the University of Iowa. She went on to earn a nursing degree from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital for 17 years and the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in the neonatal unit for four years.

Kimberly loved her three little dogs and two cats, all rescues. She enjoyed reading, watching old movies, gardening, canning, and doing research on her American Indian heritage.

Kimberly is survived by her son, Peter Isaiah Jablonski; mother, Shirley R. Youngberg of Springfield, Missouri; siblings, Michael C. Gilstrap of Jensen Beach, Florida and Valerie (Ryan) Robertson of Washington, D.C.; and many extended family. Kimberly was preceded in death by her father, Frank Taylor Gilstrap.

Kimberly loved her family and her many good friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
