John L. Aupperle, 74, died Saturday, December 13, 2025.

A Celebration of John's life will be held at 6 PM, Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where the family will greet friends from 4 PM to 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice or to the John Aupperle Memorial Fund.

John was born November 15,1951 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Howard and Maxine (Spencer) Aupperle. He was a 1970 graduate of Iowa City West High School and Kirkwood Community College. On June 5,1982 John married Dee Canney.

John received his Journeyman's license and the Master's Electrician license. He was a talented and knowledgeable electrician at Link-Belt FMC, Oral B, UIHC Electrical Dept, Homewood Electric, and City Electric. John was a gifted woodworker and carpenter. He loved making furniture.

John enjoyed cars and racing. He traveled to Michigan, Kansas City, and numerous other locations to attend NASCAR events. John loved car shows and won many trophies for the 1932 Ford he built. He was a member of the Good Guys Club and the Classy Chassis Cruisers. John's greatest joy was watching his son Nick race his sport mod, 5A.

He loved all varieties of food, especially long johns and sweets.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for the wonderful care provided by Dr. Jason Allen, Dr. Patrick Hartly, Ellie Hinders, and Robert Linnell.

John is survived by his wife, Dee and their son, Nick; his sister-in-law and brother -in-law, Diane (Roy) Rios of Cedar Rapids; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Kelly) Erickson and Justin (Angie) Rios; and his furry grandbaby pug, Jaxson.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lyndll Pingrey, and sister-in-law, Char Canney, and in-laws, Jack and Lou Canney.
