Andrew James Goodfellow passed away suddenly on March 31, 2025. He had a full and happy life, but he left us entirely too soon. He is remembered as a loyal friend, a trusted brother, and a doting uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Andrew was born on July 15, 1961, in Iowa City, IA, to Doug and Marge Goodfellow. He was the fourth of seven from his generation of the Goodfellow family. He attended Iowa City High School and graduated from Iowa City West High School, where he was a stand-out wrestler throughout his time at both schools. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air-Force, spending most of his military career at 321st Missile Wing of Grand Forks Air Force base in North Dakota. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he returned to Iowa City, where he worked for Bud Maas Concrete and the Carew Landscaping.
Throughout his life he remained dedicated to the patriotic ideals that inspired him to enlist in the Air Force. He was fiercely protective of the things he loved, whether it was his country or his family. He cared about his community as well, volunteering with organizations like the Crisis Center and often pitched in to help friends and neighbors wherever and whenever he could. After his father passed, he regularly took his mom on drives around the area, just to help her keep up with what was happening in the world. He followed NASCAR racing and national politics with equal fervor, and he could debate either with the very best. His tradition of passing out lottery tickets on holidays continually reminded us of his belief that anything can happen in life, so be optimistic and take a shot. He understood that fate is not always guaranteed to deliver what we want but it would ultimately take him on the path he needed to go. He was comfortable with that to the very end.
Andrew is survived by his siblings: Cathi Goodfellow, Bob (Renee) Goodfellow, Terri Goodfellow, Brad (Mary) Goodfellow, all of Iowa City, Janet Goodfellow Zarate (Pete) of Dallas, and Lisa Goodfellow of Chicago; nieces and nephews, Bailee, Kayla, Madison, J.D., Rylee, Claire, and Juju; and a new generation of great nieces and nephews. We will all remember him fondly.
A private family gathering of remembrance is planned at a later date.
