Michael Vest Obituary
A Gathering time for family and friends will be on September 3, 2024, Tuesday from 4 PM to 6:30 PM at The Kirkwood Room, next to Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service.
Michael was born November 14, 1958 in Muscatine, the son of Russ Cook and Jane Vest.
He was a 1977 graduate of Iowa City West High School, where he played football and wrestled for the Trojans. He married Carol Cerf in 1998.
He loved spending time taking care of Daniel after he became handicapped in an auto accident. Mike started pumping concrete 35 years ago in Tampa, Fl. for Pumpco starting on a trailer pump, sometimes pushing 500 yards thru 400 feet off 4 inch hose on large commercial projects. He then graduated to operating boom trucks in Jacksonville and Orlando, Fl. He trained and mentored many young operators. Mike was a dependable and hard working man.
He was an avid Hawkeye and Tampa Buccaneer fan, enjoyed NASCAR and loved God with all his heart.
Michael is survived by his stepchildren, Theresa (Orlando) Martinez-Cerf, Daniel Cerf, and Thomas Cerf; step-granddaughter, Helena; his siblings, Jack (Kay) Vest of Galesburg, IL, Doug Vest of Jacksonville, FL, Cindy Vest of Iowa City, Jerry Vest of Orlando, FL, and Bridget Vest of Iowa City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, his wife and his nephew Kevin Vest.
Special Thanks to Thomas and Theresa for caring for Mike in his final months.
