Cinda Ann "Cindy" Sanders

Cinda "Cindy" Ann Sanders, 59, of Iowa City died at her home on October 13, 2025 with her family by her side.

A visitation to celebrate Cindy's life will be held from 1-3pm on Saturday, November 15 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sanders Family in care of Douglas Sanders. All donations will be put toward an education fund for Cindy's daughters.

Cindy was born on May 12, 1966, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Norman and Joyce (Balk) Tollenaar.

Cindy grew up in Clinton and attended Clinton schools. After graduation from Clinton High School, she attended Mount St. Clare College before graduating from the University of Northern Iowa.

Cindy married Douglas Sanders on August 11, 2001, in Coralville, Iowa

Cindy followed in her mother's footsteps and taught for many years, first teaching preschool in Illinois and Head Start in Clinton, and then was a Kindergarten teacher at Robert Lucas Elementary, Iowa City for over twenty years.

Cindy enjoyed reading, walking, and vacationing at the beach. She enjoyed summer vacation at the lake in northern Minnesota with family and friends.

Cindy is survived by her husband Doug, daughters Shea and Sara; brother David (Diane) Tollenaar of Clinton, Iowa; niece Delaney Tollenaar and numerous extended family, friends and colleagues.

She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Joyce Tollenaar.
