William Sanders Obituary
William "Dixon" Sanders, 77, of Forest, Virginia, passed away on October 15, 2025. He was born on December 4, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Charles and Nancy Sanders.
Dixon graduated from E.C. Glass High School and then Appalachian State University. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. He spent his career working in human resources and eventually retired from Central Virginia Training Center after 35 years of service to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone about just about anything, but loved to discuss sports, especially the L. A. Dodgers. Once he earned the title of grandpa, he spent hours watching over his grandchildren and supporting them in their interests. Dixon's love for his family gave him great pleasure and encouraged him to fight to recover so many times.
Dixon is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Connie; his son, Geoff (Rachel); and grandchildren, Claire, Riley, and Brooks. In addition, his brothers, Newell (Cathy) and John (Cindy); nieces, Elizabeth and Emily (Travis); and nephews, Chuck (Jessie) and Andrew. He is preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Coleman.
Contributors can be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church in his memory.
Services celebrating his life will held on Monday, October 20th, Flat Creek Baptist Church, 14368 Wards Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Earnest Carey officiating. A visitation hour will be held at 10 a.m.
