David Paul McCune, 71, of Iowa City, passed away suddenly, Thursday, October 9, 2025, at University of Iowa Downtown Campus. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 4-6 PM, Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the David McCune Memorial Fund.

David was born on March 10, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Max and Virginia McCune. He graduated from City High School class of 1972. David married Bonnie Fuhrmeister on September 21, 1974, in Iowa City; she preceded him in death in 2012. He enjoyed watching Rozzoli and Isles in retirement. David loved take trips to Canada, fish and mushroom hunting.

David was survived by his two children, Mindy (Brian) Spevacek of West Branch, Matt McCune of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Emmett, Izabella, and Kylee Spevacek; one sibling, George (Mary Kay) McCune of Iowa City; Seven, sisters-in-law, Connie (Russell) Hanson of Iowa City, Paulette Williams of Missouri, Barb (Bill) Brolick of Cedar Rapids, Shirley Hamond of Florida, Anita McCune and Mary Saylor of Iowa City; and many extended family.

David is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; parents, Max and Virginia McCune; parents-in-law, Dorothy and Ray Fuhrmeister, step-father-in-law, Leonard Brannon; brother, Lee McCune; and Brother-in-law, Mike Biels.
