Kenneth Krall Obituary
Kenneth Krall, 72, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on February 9, 2026 after a long illness.
Ken was born on November 27, 1953 in Iowa City to Donald and Marie (Shimitz) Krall. He started working as a carpenter during high school – a career that spanned over 40 years. After leaving the carpentry industry, Ken worked at Metal Design Systems for six years before retiring in 2019.
On September 12, 1980, he married Wendy Evans, marking the start of a beautiful journey together. Their story began at Señor Pablo's in Iowa City, where Wendy was a waitress. There was an instant spark between them and it quickly became clear they were meant to be. Their first date was at Sutliff and just months after their chance meeting, they became engaged and married, beginning a loving 45-year marriage. Together, they welcomed three children, nurturing a family that embodied their deep love and commitment.
Ken spent much time outdoors. He took countless trips out West with buddies, and had great stories to share. A few years ago, he had the joy of sharing his love for the West during a long road trip he took with Wendy. Ken loved fishing and finding morels. He enjoyed watching Hawkeye sports and especially cherished watching his grandkids' activities. Ken bought a 1932 Ford pickup truck in high school and spent hours fixing it up and then driving it around town.
In his later years, he found great joy in gardening, growing fresh flowers and vegetables, which were perfectly spaced and placed throughout his garden, with his giant pumpkins as the star of the show. He will be remembered for his impressive harvests and the joy he brought others through his gardening passion, especially as the "giant pumpkin farmer" among friends, family, and neighbors.
A talented craftsman, Ken took immense pride in his work and was known for his meticulous finishing abilities, which set him apart as a master in his craft. His skills not only shaped his career but also allowed him to create lasting memories. Every project he completed will serve as a beautiful reminder of his talent, dedication, and the love he poured into everything he created.
Ken had many interests, but above all, spending time with his family and friends was the most special aspect of his life.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Wendy; children: Emily (Ryan) Krall Wieseler, Luke (Casey) Krall, and Abby (Brandon) Hove; grandchildren: Sawyer, Braelin, Harper, Laiken, Atlas, Finn, Rodes, Gavin, Fletcher, Bowen, and Ezra; as well as his two sisters: Ginny (Daryl) Steinbrech and Donna (Howard) Bright. He is also survived by in-laws, nieces and nephews, and many cousins with whom he remained close throughout his life. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law (Wendell Evans), mother-in-law (Marguerite Evans), sisters-in-law (Gail Nemecek and Nancy Evans), and brothers-in-law (Gary W. Evans and Gary T. Evans).
A celebration of life will be held at Tin Roof Hideaway in Lisbon on Sunday, March 8, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family c/o Wendy Krall.
