Edris Josephine McCarthy, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 10AM, prior to the Mass. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may donate to the charity of their choice.

Edris was born on January 22, 1928, in Viola, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph J. and Edris (Patterson) Rinella. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa School of Nursing. Edris received her BSN and MBA from Loyola University, Chicago.

Edris married Ed Clark. He died at a young age. Edris married Joseph R. McCarthy on January 5, 1985, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Edris was a Public Health Nurse and Director of Licensing for Health Care Facilities for the Chicago Department of Health for 32 years. She had also lived in Los Angeles for 22 years. Edris was raised in Iowa City and returned in 2007.

Edris was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Zeta Tau Alpha, and the Business and Professional Women's Organization. She was a volunteer with VNA of Johnson County and the DeGowin Blood Center. Edris was a worldwide traveler.

Edris is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Rinella, Nieces, Nancy Rae Lyons, Anne Marie Rinella, and Catherine Mary Currias (Alex), and Nephews James Rinella and David Mingarelli and stepchildren Bob (Marie) McCarthy, Conrad (Nati) McCarthy, and Rick McCarthy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her brother, John L. Rinella, her stepdaughter, Jane (Bob) Simpson and nephew, Joe Rinella.
