Joan Elizabeth (Harmon) McCarthy was born in Omaha, on November 8, 1936, the daughter of Paul Alexander Harmon and Frances Margaret (Lembach) Harmon.
Joan passed away on February 9, 2026, in Omaha after 89 wonderful years. She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Paul A. Harmon, Jr.
Joan married Edward Joseph McCarthy of Sioux City, IA, on July 6, 1957, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Omaha, when Ed was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
They were blessed with four children: Michael Kevin McCarthy (JoAnn) of Ewing, NJ; Kathleen Marie McCarthy-Chamberlain of Omaha; Daniel Paul McCarthy (Nilufar) of Falls Church, VA, and James William McCarthy (Stacy) of Bradenton, FL.
Joan and Ed have become the proud grandparents to seven grandchildren, namely, the five children of Daniel: Alexandria Suseela, Edward Fuad (Lauren), Amanda Liana, Angela Susanna, and Joseph Omar, as well as the two children of James: Coco Ray and Daisy May.
Ed and the family wish to give much credit and thanks to the staff and personnel at Heritage at Sterling Ridge Retirement Center for many hours and years of devoted service.
VISITATION: Sunday, February 15th, from 4 to 5 p.m., at West Center Chapel, with a VIGIL SERVICE at 5 p.m.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Monday, February 16th, 10:30 a.m., at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 11802 Pacific St., Omaha.
INTERMENT: Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Institute of Priestly Formation or the St. John Paul II Newman Center.
