Having graduated from North Putnam High School, John's career as a handyman showcased his extensive skills and a willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
John is survived by his cherished brothers, Donnie Gilstrap, Richard (Janet) Gilstrap, and David (Marsha) Gilstrap; as well as his beloved sisters, Susie Gilstrap and Julie (Ron) Davis. His friendships were equally meaningful, and he is remembered fondly by close friends Bill and Kim Green.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Gilstrap & Lucille Canfield Gilstrap; brother Joe Gilstrap, his sister Melinda Johnson, and his brother Winton Gilstrap, along with sister-in-law Teri Gilstrap. Their memories will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved John.
A Celebration of Life honoring John Gilstrap will be held on February 20, 2026, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Crawfordsville, Indiana, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance of a remarkable man who touched so many lives with his kindness and generosity.
