Philip Eugene Simpson, age 63, was born on Father's Day, June 17, 1962 in Beech Grove, Indiana. He is the youngest son of Ralph V and Rita C Basso Simpson. Despite having been ill for many years, he passed unexpectedly on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Growing up, Philip attended Bainbridge Elementary, North Putnam High School, and Ball State University before joining the United States Navy. He had warm and wonderful memories of family times at Van Bibber Lake, weekend Bingo at St. Rita's, family gatherings, long drives, and music. He was a very talented bowler and enjoyed giving lessons and pointers. He had a different perspective and achieved at most things he really tried. His career was a variety of jobs until illness forced him into disability in December 2000.
Philip was an intelligent and eclectic visionary-always looking for possibilities. This led him to be open to experiences and at times, opportunities. His direct approach and appealing personality drew people to him. Even though he struggles with many health issues, he still found joy in those things he could do.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ann Simpson, Rose E. Rose, and Karen Milliner; brother, Tim Simpson, son, Noah Simpson; and grandsons, Sebastian Simpson and Kayden Simpson.
Survivors include his life partner of 33 years, Therese Mann; sons, Philip Simpson II, Joshua (Nikki) Simpson, James (Janica) Judd, Gabriel Simpson, and Benjamin Simpson; step-son, Charles (Chad) Mann; daughters, Hannah (Rabi Sohail) Jamnish; Whitney Simpson, Moesha Simpson, Alexis (Jonathan) Alexander, and Selena Elver; step-daughters Laurie Mann, Tara Mann, Regina (Michael Scholl) Mann; and brothers, Daniel Simpson and James Simpson.
His true delight was all of the grandchildren: Lola and Charleigh Mann, Harrison and Clara Scholl, Leonidas, Lucius, Lestat and Loki Simpson, Theodore Jamnish, Noah Rabi, Percy and Lela Judd, Kholby Priest, Skylah and Amelia Alexander, Khalil Simpson, and Amaya and Devon Smith.
A funeral service honoring Philip's life will be held Saturday, November 29 at 1 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 925 East Hannah Avenue Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Burial will follow at Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana.
