Anastasios Argiras Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2026.
Anastasios "Tasos" Argiras resident of Manchester NH born March 8, 1945 passed away on January 25th 2026 at his beloved second home of Athens, Greece after a period of declining health just shy of his 81st birthday. Born and raised in the village of Agiasos on the Island of Lesvos, Greece he was the living son of the late Panagiotis and Despina Argiras.
Upon completion of his military and civic duties Tasos earned degrees in both physics and math at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece. Afterwards Tasos decided to pursue his engineering capabilities and came to the Boston area to study his masters degrees in both engineering and business in which he excelled and was a top student loved and respected by many classmates.
Not long after Tasos and wife Helen "Eleni" Argiras settled in Manchester NH where Tasos began his career, got involved in his community, and started a family whom he loved and adored forming a family of him, wife life-long teacher) and two boys.
Tasos worked many years for defense contractors such as Sanders & Associates (now BAE systems) and later other companies in various engineering capacities in addition to interim professor at New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University), teaching international business courses until his retirement.
Upon his 2006ish retirement Tasos split his time between his home in Manchester New Hampshire, his home in Greece and world traveling.
Tasos and his beloved wife Eleni were very fortunate and healthy to have traveled throughout the world during their many years of happy retirement, including Australia, Spain, Norway, Italy, China, Peru, Panama and all over the continental US to name a few. They eventually (when legs got tired) settled in Greece spending 6 months on the Island and 6 months in Athens.
Tasos was a very knowledgeable and extremely patient man. "Mr. Fix It" could repair anything or find a solution to any problem without fuss or complaint in addition to being a very skilled tailor which he earned from his father. Throughout all his years he taught himself much carpentry, electrical, plumbing and other skills he patiently used throughout his life in his various homes, rental units and properties of friends and families.
Tasos was an extremely kind, loving and loyal man; he had deep affection for his wife Eleni, his grandchild, children, and his close friends (many of which he considered family). He was unmatched in wit, always quick with a joke or retort that made people laugh and smile at exactly the right time (or staying quiet till the time was right).
Tasos had much integrity, dignity, honor, respect, and love from everyone he came to know in that he would show everyone the same common courtesy and respect that they so deserved. Tasos was at times quiet but I can assure you this was him being observant, very non flashy; an extremely non-materialistic and very simple man, Tasos was the real deal.
Tasos was also very altruistic and giving, always willing to treat anyone to coffee, a meal, help on a home project, or life advice. Indeed much of his happiness came from helping others and making them happy and feel confident. He loved to work on others home carpentry projects and if you knew him you would know just why.
A life long member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Manchester NH Tasos relished devoting his time to the September annual Greek Glendi festival. He loved to work hard to help fund his Cathedral whilst watching others dance and enjoy the food! On non Holidays or in church Tasos would dress SPIFF as hell (always his wife's choice) and the essential coffee and snacks after service with all community friends he considered his family was the highlight of his week.
Tasos loved his Tom Clancy books, his dark coffee, his dark chocolate, puritan backroom tenders, hearty homemade traditional Greek food, good company, dancing and sweating until am, skiing, power walking, swimming, and being in the sun at the beach where he could catch a nice two hour nap followed by fresh "wake me up" of seafood, salad, coffee and fruit.
Tasos is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Helen "Eleni" Argiras; two sons Panos Argiras and wife Ashely of Chicago, IL; Stratos Argiras of Manchester NH; and a granddaughter whom he, loved, cherished, adored, and inquired about daily till his last days Eleni Kathryn Argiras of Bedford NH; a sister Doctor Eriphili Argiras and husband Counselor of Greek State Yiannis Symplis and niece Domina Symplis all of Athens, and family other from various parts of Greece, Australia and California.
A small funeral service took place at a Cathedral in Athens, Greece on January 29th. The summer of 2026 a full service will take place in the village of his birth Agiasos on the island of Lesvos, Greece where he will be fondly remembered with close family and friends. The service will be at the church he was baptized, and grew up, and so fondly remembered, The Church of the Virgin Mary. Later Tasos' ashes will be spread throughout the rivers, woods and mountains he played in as a child and youth. May God bless Tasos and his family. MEMORY ETERNAL. Anastasios Argiras
