Anastasios Zacharias Platanas, 73, passed away on September 25, 2023.
Taso was born in Lagio, Lakonia, Greece on March 6, 1950 to Zacharias and Aikaterini Platanas. Taso was the youngest of 6 siblings; Pierros, Crystalia, George, Georgia (deceased) and Theano (deceased).
He went to high school in Krokees. He often shared funny stories of antics with his siblings, George and Georgia growing up in the village. He served in the Greek military. After his service he moved to the island of Corfu where he opened up an automotive repair shop. He spent 6 years there and spoke of it often.
In 1979, his sister Georgia invited him to come live in
Costa Mesa, California to start a new life and to help her with raising her daughter, Katerina. Excited for a new beginning in the land of opportunity he decided to go. Later that year, they moved to
Riverside, CA. Taso worked in auto repair, and produce delivery. He opened up a produce delivery business for restaurants, and then also opened a window cleaning business. Taso was proud that the physical activity of his profession kept him fit. He spent 44 years living in California.
He enjoyed visiting with all his friends in the restaurants. He loved spending time with his family and making people laugh. Taso was filled with warmth and always greeted everyone with a smile. He was very friendly and always generous. He was very kind, and always ready to help anyone with whatever problem they had, if their car broke down, they needed help to fix something in their home, needed a ride, needed a job, or needed to move, whatever the case, he would try to help someone in need. The importance of loving others, doing the right thing, and philotimo were the way he lived. He always kept an upbeat attitude no matter what the challenge and encouraged others to be positive and enjoy life. He enjoyed thinking up ideas to fix the world's problems. He loved to laugh, and sang while he worked.
He is survived by his niece Katerina Hoyo Frederickson, who he treated as his daughter, her husband Jason, and his siblings in Greece, George Platanas, Pierros Platanas, and Lia Alexopoulos, and their children Efftihia, Zacharias, Gerasimos, Zacharias, Katerina, Panayoti, and their children, his beloved cousins in California, and in Greece, and all his friends that he loved and loved him like family.
