SWANTON - Andre J. Gagne, age 86, passed away on Friday, July 19th, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Highgate on March 28, 1938, to Simeon and Bernadette (LaPlante) Gagne.
He was a hardworking and dedicated individual in the agriculture industry and was a proud farmer and truck driver who lived a life filled with perseverance and generosity. Raised on his family farm, Andre learned the value of hard work from a young age. Andre married the love of his life, Eileen on June 8, 1963. In the 1980s, he ventured out to start his own farm, and throughout his career, he worked for respected companies such as Purina, Agway, Bourdeau Brothers, and Steady Transport. He eventually retired after over 20 years of service at Vaillancourt Transport. Those who knew Andre remember him as a man with a strong work ethic, compassionate soul, and a delightful sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and was respected for his unwavering dedication to his craft.
He is survived by his four children, Michael Gagne and his wife, Jodie of Swanton, Denise Mercy and her husband, Mike of Montgomery Center, Mark Gagne of Sheldon, and Matthew Gagne and his wife, Katie of Swanton. Grandchildren, Katie Piper and her wife, Alexandra of Templeton, MA, Michelle Gagne of St. Albans, Heather Lundborg and her husband, Zachary of Lynchburg, VA, Eric Mercy of Montgomery Center, Matthew and Kaleb Gagne of Swanton, Wyatt and Willow Jung, of Closter, NJ; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Julianna Lundborg of Lynchburg, VA; siblings, Christine Snider and her husband Frederick of Richford, and Harvey Gagne and his wife Mary of Highgate. Besides his parents, Andre was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Gagne; siblings, Jean D'arc Gagne, Bernard Gagne, Adrian Gagne, and Leonard Gagne.
Family and friends are invited to Andre's life celebration events to include a visitation on Thursday, July 25th from 6 - 8:00 PM at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 26th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity, Canada Street, Swanton. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton.
