Obituary
Andre LaSalle Williams, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, surrounded by the family he cherished dearly. Andre was born on October 11, 1954, to Archie Williams, Sr. and Carolyn Williams (Reeves) in
Smithfield, North Carolina. Andre's life was filled with love, accomplishments, and cherished moments. In 1966, a significant moment in his life came when he accepted Christ. His faith became the rock that guided him through life. His favorite prayer was the Serenity Prayer that he used to guide him from day to day.
Education played a significant role in Andre's life, and he pursued his studies in the local school system in
Westbury, New York. He went on to graduate from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in
Kings Point, New York, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering in 1977. This laid the foundation for his successful career as a Merchant Engineer that spanned over forty years, allowing him to travel the world, which became one of his favorite pastimes. Among all the places he visited, Amsterdam and Egypt held a special place in his heart.
In 1980, Andre met the love of his life, Mamie, in
Jacksonville, Florida. Their love story blossomed, and on November 25, 1984, they vowed to share a lifetime together. Through the years, they built a family filled with laughter, love, and cherished moments, raising seven beautiful children who became the pride of Andre's heart. Andre instilled in his children the values of education, the importance of reading, his love for travel, and the importance of love and unity.
There were so many memorable moments with Andre. He had a passion for music and cooking. The melodies of old school music like the Commodores filled the air while preparing his favorite dishes, such as beef jerky, and his famous steak and salmon. He may have traveled the world, but his home was wherever he found a friend, for he never met a stranger. Andre's spirit shined bright in every room he entered, his presence bringing warmth and comfort to those around him. He loved sharing great stories, bragging about how proud he was of his children, and his infectious laughter brought joy to everyone around him.
Andre leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mamie Williams; their seven children, Auntoris "Tori" (Joi), Carol "Michelle" (Edward), Krystal, Florence "Smokey" (George), Christopher "Boy Boy," Timothy "Chicken" and Porscha; his memory will also be treasured by his grandchildren, SaToria, Zaniah, Tijari, Dejah, Emerie, Auntoris Jr. "AJ", George, Cairo, and Gabrielle.
In addition to his immediate family, Andre is survived by his sister, Gwendolyn Williams; brother, Archie "Ish" Williams Jr. (Addie); nephew, Joseph Williams; and a host of other family members and friends who will forever cherish the time they spent with him. Andre was preceded in death by his loving parents, Archie Williams, and Carolyn Williams.
Andre will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved him. Let us remember him for his loving nature, the joy he brought into the lives of others, and the beautiful memories he leaves behind. But let us also take comfort in knowing that Andre's faith in Christ brought him comfort and hope, and that he is now reunited with his beloved parents in eternal peace. May the memories of Andre's kindness, love, and devotion to his family and faith continue to inspire all those who mourn his passing. And May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
