Andrea Unger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin on Mar. 3, 2026.
Andrea Beatrice (Apsit) Unger, 83, of Norfolk, passed away on February 25 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester after a long illness.

Born in Attleboro on April 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Elfrida (Apsit) Apsit. Andrea was raised in Wrentham and lived in Norfolk for the past 35 years. She was a graduate of King Philip High School and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Andrea worked for many years as a counselor at MCI Norfolk. Earlier in her career, she was an elementary school teacher in Plainville and Wrentham.

Andrea was a member of the American Association of University Women and University of Massachusetts Alumni Society.

A lifelong lover of the arts, Andrea was an avid reader with eclectic taste and a deep appreciation for music. She cherished trips to the Boston Symphony and the Museum of Fine Art. She took great pride in watching her children and grandchildren perform.

She found joy walking the Marginal Trail at Perkins Cove, playing cribbage at White Horse Beach, enjoying cocktails on the deck with Louis, and enthusiastically-sometimes too enthusiastically-calling out the answers during family Trivial Pursuit games.

Andrea is survived by her life partner, Louis Caterina of Norfolk; her children, David Unger of Allston, and Rachel Tuohy and her husband, James Tuohy, of Wrentham; and her sister, Dr. Victoria J. Apsit.

She was the late sister of Ivan F. Apsit.

Andrea also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Sara (Tuohy) Lucas and her husband, Riley Lucas, as well as Peter Tuohy and Griffin Tuohy.

Calling hours are on Tuesday, March 10 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin,(ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin, from 4–7 p.m.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 N Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
