I will always be grateful to Andy for his companionship and his fatherly advice.
I looked forward to the times we spent traveling to IAET meetings and Events, Q´s on Wednesday nights, and Barbecuing for Bocce on Monday nights at Casa Italia.
He was incredibly proud of his German heritage, but equally proud of his love of all things Italian, most notably, his companion and steadfast love, Nancy.
He coined the phrase "Northern Italian " to convey his love for both Germany and Italy. I use these words to describe my heritage as well. Like Andy, I use them to describe both of my countries-Germany, my ancestral home, and Italy, a country whose people have adopted me and welcomed we with love.
Many of our car travels involved singing by Andy-usually on the way home. There is much joy in singing, and I appreciated listening to Andy´s singing whenever the opportunity presented itself.
The song most "performed" by Andy was a 1956 classic 1st sung by Clarence "Frogman" Henry titled "I don´t know why I love you (But I Do). Bobby Vinson covered the song in 1972, reachin No. 82 on the Billboard Top 100.
Although I am not certain which recording of the song got Andy´s attention, I do know that Andy´s love of singing this song best summarize my feelings and love for him:
"I don´t know why I love you like I do,
I don´t know why, but I do"
By now, St Peter has most likely caused an"Express Lane" back-up into Heaven while he searches Andy for his Weber Bakery box.
Andy, I will truely miss your company, your great stories, your singing, and your friendship.
