Tom Tegtmeier Obituary

Tom Tegtmeier, 76, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
A celebration of life will be 10:30 Monday, November 17, at Harvest Vineyard Church, 320 South 17th Street, Ames. The family will receive friends after the service at the church,
Tom is remembered by his family and friends for his love of family, memories of him pulling the children in the cart hitched to the back of the lawn mower, and his enthusiasm for college sports. He looked forward to watching both Iowa and Iowa State--always a fan of both in a state divided.
Tom loved old-time rock and roll and the blues. He shared stories of seeing some of his favorite bands, including the Allman Brothers, Hall & Oates, and B.B. King, and recently reminisced about attending the Wadena Rock Festival in 1970.
Tom could strike up a conversation with anyone he ever met. He knew facts about every athlete you've ever heard of--and some you haven't. He was an empathetic listener who cared deeply about what was important to others, making it important to him as well. Tom had a soft spot for his pets, especially his dog Betsy, who could always count on her own French Fry or ice cream cone.
Tom was born on June 12, 1949, to Art and Marie Tegtmeier. He graduated from Sumner High School and shortly after met his wife, Sue Connell. They were married on August 23, 1969.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Art and Marie, and his infant sister, Marie.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; three children, Samantha (Chris Burt), Jesse Tegtmeier (Melissa Whitmarsh), and Morgan Tegtmeier (Ben Rice); grandchildren Desiree, Kelsey, Tanner, Tyler, Riley, Ethan, and Nautica; three great-grandchildren; brother, Mark Tegtmeier (Amy); and sister, Teresa (Rich Johnson).
He will be greatly missed in this earthly life, but we find comfort in God's grace and knowing he is walking with Jesus.

Yesterday

I will miss seeing Tom on Sunday at church.I enjoyed getting to know him during our Alpha class. He was easy to chat with and cared for his church community. Sue, Tom always let me know how much he supported our Friday quilting sessions & appreciated our sew sister group. Sue, may the words shared about Tom in the coming days bring you peace, comfort & healing. God knows your heart, may he be the source of your comfort.
In my prayers, Marsha Braden
