Andres "Andy" Flores, Jr., a beacon of love and creativity, embarked on his final adventure on June 11, 2025, in
Orange, California. Born on August 10, 1934, in Roswell, New Mexico, Andy's life was a canvas of dedication, service, and boundless enthusiasm that inspired all who knew him.
Andy's journey began in the vibrant community of Garden Grove, where his passion for learning led him from the halls of Garden Grove High School to the achievement of his Associate's Degree at Santa Ana College. His thirst for knowledge was matched only by his commitment to his country, as he honorably served in the U.S. Army in Germany, standing sentinel at the Berlin Wall.
Upon returning home, fate smiled upon him as he met the love of his life, Darlene Frances Hernandez. Their hearts aligned, and after a courtship that spanned four years, they united in marriage at La Purisima Catholic Church in 1964. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter, celebrating nearly 61 years of unwavering partnership.
Andy's professional life as a Building Inspector for the County of Orange was marked by integrity and excellence. For over 30 years, he ensured the safety and standards of the community he so cherished. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his dedication to his family, which includes his beloved wife, Darlene; daughters, Jennifer and Monica, along with her husband, Mark; two grandchildren, Michael and Malia; and his sister, Gloria Greigo.
A spiritual man, Andy's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He and Darlene actively contributed to their church and the school their children attended, leaving a legacy of service and community engagement.
Andy's zest for life was contagious. He found joy in the great outdoors, sharing his love for hiking, backpacking, and fishing with his family. Their excursions to National and State Parks are etched in memory as times of bonding and discovery. Andy was also a gifted athlete, remembered for the days when he would effortlessly sprint, his energy seemingly boundless.
His creativity knew no bounds. An accomplished artist and woodworker, Andy sculpted beauty from the simplest materials, from a cherished Nativity Scene to figures that brought imagination to life. His musical talents were equally impressive, as he played the trumpet and guitar, even joining a Western Band for a spell. Andy's love for music was profound, with the rhythms of Johnny Cash often providing the soundtrack to their home.
Andy's legacy extends beyond his tangible creations to the intangible joy he brought into the world. His humor, encapsulated in the dad jokes that elicited both chuckles and eye rolls, was a testament to his light-hearted spirit.
In remembering Andy, we are reminded of the power of kindness, love, and creativity. His life was a masterclass in embracing every moment with passion and purpose. As we celebrate Andy, let us carry forward his indomitable spirit, finding wonder in the everyday and creating our own symphony of joy. Andres "Andy" Flores, Jr., leaves us not with a sense of loss, but with a profound sense of gratitude for the tapestry of memories and the example of a life well-lived.
