Andrew Jackson Bowen IV "Jack" peacefully passed away on December 11, 2024, in
Hagerstown, Maryland. He was born on November 19, 1938, in Westernport, Maryland.
Jack graduated at the top of his class from John Handley High School and attended the University of Virginia on a scholarship, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He served four years in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant before being honorably discharged. His time in the Navy shaped him, while creating lifelong regard for the military and aviation. He later went on to earn his MBA from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and became an enthusiastic Cornhuskers fan.
Jack's career was wide ranging, starting in computer programming before moving into telecommunications, managing small businesses, and finally into the non-profit sector. The variety of his work took him and his family from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Nebraska, Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, Virginia Beach and ultimately to Hagerstown where he worked until he retired at 80. Through it all, he pursued improvements and efficiencies to make each place better.
His curiosity committed him to lifelong learning, enthusiastically engaging with new technologies, cultural experiences, and artistic pursuits. Jack's varied interests included emerging technologies, wine, fine art, photography, cinema, Persian rugs, and a wide array of music genres. Jack's legacy of learning and nurturing meaningful connections will be cherished by all who knew him.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Bowen III and Consuelo Bowen (Getty) and his beloved spouse, Lynne Bowen (Albano). Together, Jack and Lynne created a beautiful family, enjoyed travel, and cherished many joyful moments throughout their 34 years of marriage.
Jack is survived by his three children: Andrew Bowen V, Elizabeth (Todd) Edwards and Scott (Kim) Bowen. He is also mourned by his three brothers: William (Kristin), Robert, and Howard (Virginia). Additionally, he leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
