DURHAM –Andrew Anthony Carola, 93, passed away on August 26, 2025. He was born in Towanda, PA, to Andrew Carola and Anna Michele Maroccia Carola. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by Joyce Bishop Cook Carola and Teresa Beirne Carola; sisters, Santina Edsell and Inez Scheithauer; brother, Elvin Rege; niece, Diane Shutkufski, and 2 grandchildren, Nicole Sager and Nikolaus Sager.
Andy was the youngest of three siblings. He was guided by his brother and sisters in his early life, acting as mentors to their baby brother. His mother insisted he was always properly dressed before leaving the house and he stayed true to that throughout his life. He was a family man who adored his daughters and grandchildren. He graduated from Towanda High School in 1949 and went on to earn a degree at Mansfield University and a master's degree at Penn State University in education. He served in the army for two years. Andy was a lifelong educator, starting as a math teacher and ending as a principal of Edison Junior High School in West Orange, NJ until his retirement in 1988. Upon retirement, he moved back to Pennsylvania and his "endless mountains" with his wife Joyce, where they enjoyed being outdoors, feeding deer and riding horses. His other hobbies included woodworking, reading, and watching the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. His final years were spent in Sayre, PA, where he was happily married for 13 years with his wife, Teresa. He loved his Italian meals with family, listening to Neil Diamond and watching The Sound of Music. Andy loved being around people and was a compassionate and gentle man. He was a father, a husband, a grandfather, a mentor and a friend to many. He was deeply loved.
Mr. Carola is survived by daughters Michele Sager and Mary Gurinko (Joe); grandchild, Joshua Gurinko (Kaycie); niece, Ramona Massari; and nephew, Regis Scheithauer, nephew Raymond Rege; several great nieces and nephews; Joyce's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Teresa's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Saints Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, 106 3rd St., Towanda, PA 18848 on Thursday, September 11. Calling hour is from 11:00 am - noon. A funeral mass will follow at 12:00 pm followed by internment.
