Patricia Filippi Scully, 77, of Skillman, NJ, died on March 24, 2026. Born on June 3,1948 at Ft. Lee, Va., Pat (also known as Patti) was the daughter of Frank A. Filippi and Alberta Laugginger. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and received her MPH degree in Epidemiology from Rutgers University in 1988. She worked at Hoffman-LaRoche as a medical writer and advertising copywriter until 1978, when she accepted a position at Bristol Myers Squibb in Princeton, NJ as a medical writer and clinical data manager. She had a fulfilling career there and retired from BMS in 2008 as Associate Director of Clinical Data Management.

Sadly, both of Pat's children predeceased her. She had one daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Scully Merkley (Aug 14, 1979- Dec 16, 2012) and one son, Frederick Michael Scully (June 21, 1982-May 19, 2012), both of whom she loved dearly. She leaves behind a grandson, Anthony Merkley (AJ), and a granddaughter, Carrington Grace Scully Long.

Among her many volunteer activities, Pat:

• Recorded medical textbooks for Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic.

• Sampled local streams for the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association and tested them for indexes of water quality.

• Measured precipitation for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network.

• Answered phones during fund drives for the local public classical radio station.

• In 2012, Pat joined the all-volunteer Montgomery EMS as an associate in charge of maintaining schedules and the following year became an EMT. She also served as their secretary and their representative to the township board of health.

• Volunteered as a dogwalker and assisted at adoption events at local pet stores for SAVE animal shelter.

• Volunteered at Mercer County Wildlife Rescue, feeding injured/orphaned animals and cleaning cages.

• Volunteered at the Mary Jacobs Library in Rocky Hill, NJ.

• Served as a poll worker for nearly two decades in Somerset County.

Pat lived a full life with no regrets.

Pat will be laid to rest next to her son, Fred, at Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson, NC. Memorial contributions may be made to SAVE, a Friend to Homeless Animals (savehomelessanimals.org).
