Andrew Joseph Maliszewski
August 30, 1958–September 25, 2025
Andrew Joseph Maliszewski died peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the age of 67 after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was held to his last breath by his devoted wife, Sandra, and their children, John and Lynn. He is
survived by four grandchildren: Miles, Francis, Luisa, and Jack.
Andy was born on August 30th, 1958, to Adam and Joyce Maliszewski of Halesite, Long Island. The second eldest of four brothers, Andy attended Huntington public schools and enjoyed playing the flute. Throughout high school, he held positions as a dishwasher at a local restaurant and a fire extinguisher
technician. He attended Drexel University in Philadelphia for one year before transferring to SUNY at Stony Brook on Long Island, where he majored in Chemisty (Class of 1980). He would go on to receive a Masters of Science in
Urban and Policy Sciences from Stony Brook in 1982, serving as co-valedictorian of his class. He also met his girlfriend and future wife, Sandra Linares, at Stony Brook-they married in 1981 and enjoyed 44 years together.
Professionally, Andy began his career as a chemist before transitioning to a long and impactful tenure in technology and Healthcare. He served as a senior consultant at Price Waterhouse in the mid-1980s before joining the New York
University (NYU) hospital system, where he remained for nearly 30 years. At NYU Medical Center, he held a series of leadership roles, including IT Manager, Chair of the IT Quality Committee, Director of Application Development, Senior
Director of ERP Systems, and Director of MCIT Corporate Services. Andy guided the institution through pivotal technology transitions, including the Y2K challenge and the hospital's evolution from Mount Sinai-NYU Health to NYU Langone
Medical Center. In recognition of his outstanding service, he received an Individual Excellence Award in 2008 and an Honorary Recognition Award from the Department of Nursing in 2009. After retiring from NYU, Andy continued to
share his expertise as a founding member of HCLS Consulting and an adjunct professor in the Information Services department at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), where he helped educate and mentor the next
generation of technology professionals.
While Andy's life included numerous accomplishments from a long-tenured career as a PMP-certified manager, his greatest achievement was his unwavering commitment to family. His interests included sharing chocolate desserts with his daughter, going to the driving range and attending sporting events with his son, and spending time on and around the water with his wife. If you needed a school charity Bingo game called or a Little League team coached, he was your guy. He possessed a legendary aptitude for off-the-cuff puns and was a natural jokester. Without judgment or scorn, Andy was always intent on finding solutions to problems big and small. He was a voracious listener, and a reliable confidant. In his adult life, he attended the School of Practical Philosophy with his wife, and copies of The Tao Te Ching or The Bhagavad Gita could often be found on his bedside table. He had several life-long mantras-"patience, persistence, and perseverance;" "everyone's crazy, including me!"-that colored his engagement with the world, and will live on through his family and friends.
In his final years, Andy spent his days in Oyster Bay, gazing out at the water, reminding us that the horizon line could wash all our troubles away. Every time we look out at the rays of sunshine glistening across the waves of the Long Island Sound, we will think of him and the power of his unconditional, transparent love.
