Andrew J. Saksa, 96, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born in Sheppton, Pennsylvania on March 12, 1928, he was the youngest child of the late John and Catherine (Meholick) Saksa.
Andy was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served our country in the Post WWII Era. He was employed as a driver/salesman with various companies, with his last being the Del Campo Baking Company. Andy was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, where he was active in fundraising activities, participated in the Filipino Choir and enjoyed dealing poker at the annual parish carnival. As a devout Catholic and a person of profound faith, he prayed the Rosary daily and watched Mass on ETWN.
Andy was an avid sports fan and in his younger days played semi-pro baseball. He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing and spending time at Delaware Park.
His wife of 61 years, Jean (Honis) Saksa, passed away on March 9, 2017.
Andy is survived by his children, Laurie McArthur (George), John Saksa (Maggie), Mary Kay Tamone (Tom) and Andrew Saksa Jr. (Michele); his nine grandchildren, Jessica Schwartz, Chris McArthur (Erin), Dan Saksa, John Saksa, Kristin Saksa, Thomas Tamone, Joseph Tamone (Erica), Lauren Fuhr (Nick) and Andrew Saksa III (Bri); his great grandchildren, Annabelle and Jake Schwartz, Kayleigh and Caleb McArthur, Ava and Ariella Saksa.
Andy was predeceased by his siblings and is survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, Delaware 19701 on Wednesday, October 23 from 11:00 – 11:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM, immediately followed by interment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Andrew may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.
