Andrew J. Somraty, 85, of Worden, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Brightly Senior Living in Glen Carbon, IL.
He was born on January 3, 1940, in East St. Louis, IL, the son of the late Andrew F. and Norma (née Kassing) Somraty. On April 9, 1960, he married his childhood sweetheart Catheryn Mason, and together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.
Andy retired from Allied Aviation, where he worked as an airline fueler. He was a proud member of Newsong Fellowship Church. When his children were younger, he participated in their activities some of which included coaching Little League to being a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader alongside Cathy. As the kids grew and he was blessed with grandkids, he enjoyed taking the family on trips to Florida which included several trips to Disney. Andy and Cathy also enjoyed traveling in their motor home especially during the winter months.
Andy had a passion for working on cars, passing his love of Mustangs to his children and grandchildren. He positively impacted many young lives whether it was teaching them how to work on cars or do home repairs. There was very little he couldn't figure out how to fix and enjoyed sharing that knowledge with everyone. Known for his kind heart and easygoing nature, Andy was a caring person who touched a lot of lives.
Andy's simple pleasures included listening to old Country music, enjoying a bowl of vanilla ice cream that was almost melted or spending time with his senior group of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Don McCann.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Catheryn Somraty; his children, Carie (Michael) Greer of Edwardsville, IL, and Andrew J. (Mara) Somraty II of Worden, IL; six grandchildren, Andrew J. (Jerri) Somraty III, Cassie (Matthew) Studebaker, Courtney (Aaron) Harper, Ricky (Dani) Sharrard, Torie (Brendan) Magruder, Emily Franklin (Morgan); and nine great-grandchildren, Maddux and Reagan Johnson, Dylan and Ryan Somraty, Quincy and Ainsley Sharrard, Jonah Studebaker, Harper Magruder, and Diana Franklin.
He is also survived by his sisters, who felt he was the best brother they could have ever asked for: Barbara McCann, Marlene Somraty, and Norma Jean (Steve) Arnold; and sisters-in-law, Carol (Bill) Bilderback and Mary (Paul) Torti; and numerous nieces and nephews.
