Andrew "Andy" James Werner
December 13, 1968 - December 24, 2025
Andrew "Andy" James Werner born December 13, 1968, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 24, 2025. He was the middle "A" of Albert (T.D.) and Connie Werner and brother to Angie, Albie (Dawn), Aric (Deidra) and Adam. Andy graduated Grand Island Senior High in 1987, and University of Nebraska Kearney in 1992, with a major in Criminal Justice.
From an early age, Andy loved to build and work on projects spending many hours putting together model airplanes, Lincoln Logs, erecter sets, and Legos. His love of tinkering continued throughout his life with various car projects including the "General Lee" and "Batmobile". Later in life he worked on customizing his numerous motorized wheelchairs. He took great pride in building a snowplow for his chair that he used to help the neighbors shovel their driveways – many times he had the drives plowed before they were even awake.
Andy spent countless hours in the garage in and amongst his tools and treasures, drinking his Bud heavy and watching TV. This was his space to hangout and have friends visit. Although it looks like disarray to us, Andy knew exactly where everything was and could happily get you almost any tool you needed.
Those that knew Andy know that he was strong willed and ornery. He liked to push buttons (both literally and figuratively) but he was a loyal and true friend that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was quick to help with projects, lend one of the hundreds of tools he had, or give his opinion on how to fix it. His time working at Menards let his skills shine. He was loved by many customers and coworkers, and we still hear stories from them about the impact he had.
Andy also loved the outdoors. He spent a lot of time at the family farm, Dubs Acres, either alone, with his friends or with his dogs. He loved his dogs as well as all the numerous dogs of family and friends. They loved him back – sometimes they may have loved him more than their owners.
We will miss Andy and his random knowledge on almost any subject. Where or how he got his information is a mystery, but he had a mind that could retain random facts and useful information. He also remembered family stories that many of us had forgotten.
Andy loved his nieces, Addison (Levi) Werner, Shelbi (Aaron) Carpenter, Tosha (Tony) Burnett; nephew, Spencer (Karsen) Carpenter; and his great-nieces and nephew, Britton, Brinley, Vivian, and Izabella.
Andy was fortunate that he was able to attend his own celebration of life on his last birthday, December 13. His good buddy, Luke Goering, organized a surprise party for him that included many of his close friends. We are grateful to Luke for his love and support of Andy throughout the years. No other memorial service is planned currently per Andy's request.
We are also grateful for the care and comfort provided by Tabitha Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Leo's Community Outreach.
Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. You are encouraged to sign Andy's guestbook at
