Andrew (Andy) Levenworth Whipple, Jr., born May 13, 1965, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at the age of 60, after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
For those who knew Andy Whipple, it was like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon - either you knew him, or knew someone who did. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, but he spent much of his childhood between his mother's home in Moreno Valley, California, and his father's farmhouse in
Groveport, Ohio. Andy was the youngest of three, with two older sisters, Karen and Kathy.
In his early adult life, Andy worked at Little Italy Pizza Shop for 11 years. He was known for his creative inventions, including the Italian Sausage Spaghetti menu item and his holiday date bar pies. Though he got his start making pizza, Andy really thrived in carpentry. He worked at Stedman Flooring Co. for over 20 years, installing flooring around Columbus. Most recently, Andy was a top salesman for America's Floor Source, where people appreciated his hands-on experience in the field.
Andy was a hard worker all of his life, but he would say his greatest achievement was raising his daughter, Alex. As a single parent to Alex, Andy made sure to fill their home with many pets, from dogs to snakes, and their days with dirt biking and camping, their favorite activities to do together. When Alex was grown, he met Elizabeth, his now wife of 9 years. Andy became a father to two more daughters from Elizabeth's previous marriage, Abigail and Jillian, to whom he became a dependable presence. Elizabeth and Andy loved working in their yard, watching action movies together, and as a family, they enjoyed taking vacations to Hilton Head.
Andy was known for more than being a hard worker and a great father; he was also a legendary foosball player. Andy would compete in tournaments in his spare time until he decided to start his own tournament league, Groveport Foos, in 2020. The league brought foosball players from surrounding states to compete in Andy's fully outfitted garage. When you weren't playing, you could admire his hundreds of Volkswagen collectibles lining every wall, spanning decades of models. Andy was awarded "Promoter of the Year" and "Special Recognition" for his contributions to the Ohio foosball scene.
Andy always had a joke to crack, a long-winded story to tell, and he could build anything he put his mind to. He always finished his day with a "nap-master special". He will be remembered by his easy-going attitude and his countless stories.
Andy is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Whipple, his daughters Alex (Allen) Lynch, Abigail and Jillian Kemper, his son, Luke Craft, his sisters, Karen (Doug) Frederking and Kathryn Rastok, his stepmother, Judy Whipple, and several grandchildren. He also leaves behind other family members and many friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation hours will be Thursday, Sept. 4 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be on Friday, Sept. 5, at 2pm. Both will be held at Myers-Woodyard, 587 Main St,
Groveport, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio or online at: https://fairhopehospice.org/donation-page/.
