Deacon Andy Theron Brown, Sr. was born on September 4, 1944, to the late Lawrence Warren, Sr. and Albirdia Isaac Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sister(s) - Thedora Albrey, Zilla Mae Moore, Cloteil Brown, Euretha Brown, and E. Hattie Williams and four brother(s) - Lawrence T. Brown, Dillard J. Brown, Simmie T. Brown, and Lawrence Brown, Jr.

Andy united with the Richland Baptist Church in Arcadia, LA at an early age where he served as a Junior Deacon, attended Sunday School, and sang in the choir. He attended Athens Negro High School, which later became Hillcrest High School where he played baseball and basketball. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1963.

Andy moved to Kansas City, MO after graduation and worked on numerous jobs which included being a delivery man for SMAKs and Allen’s Burger chain, driving and repairing buses for Westfall-Odell Motors, until he joined the Kansas City Power & Light Company (KCP & L) family in March 1970. He started as a linesman at KCP & L in July 1979, and began working at the Iatan Power plant in Weston, MO. He later moved to Platte City, MO to be closer to his job.

After 25 years of employment at KCP & L, Andy became a member of the Quarter of Century Club. He served as the Secretary and Co-Chairman and was the first African American to serve as Chairman. In March 2000, Andy retired from KCP & L as a Fuel Foreman Supervisor.

Andy joined Southside First MBC under the leadership of Rev. A. L. Johnson in May 1972. While living in Platte City, MO - Andy joined the Second Baptist Church in Platte City, MO in 1982, and later rejoined Southside First MBC in 1986.

He faithfully attended Sunday School, Prayer Meetings, Bible Study, B.T.U., sang in the various choirs and attended church services without fail when he was not working. Over the years of membership at Southside First MBC he became the member with the longest membership and served as a Deacon. He also enjoyed quartet singing and Lee Williams was one of his idols along with many others. His love for singing afforded him the opportunity to sing around the Kansas City, MO area on many programs. For several years, Sis. Viola Howard asked Andy to lead a selection to close out the program for the New Era District Vesper Hour.

Andy was an active Laymen and also enjoyed singing with the NED Laymen Chorus at Early Morning Services and served briefly as the Laymen Chorus Director at the request of Deacon Eddie Davis.

Andy was a licensed Electrician and enjoyed doing part time work. He maintained his license and was blessed to have many churches in the Kansas City area as his clients.

In 2000, Andy retired from KCP & L and joined his brother, Lawrence Brown, Jr. and friend Fredrick Barnes to serve as co-owners and operators of the B & B Tour and Charter Bus Company. They transported numerous groups around the states. B & B Tour and Charter Bus Company finished its last load in 2012. Andy loved driving so much he continued driving for Crossroads, White Knights and Wind Star bus lines until 2021.

Andy’s hobbies included fishing, driving on request, playing dominoes, and most of all bowling. He bowled in the Antioch/Midwest Bowling Guild, and the Power & Light Mixers for over 20 years, attending tournaments and conventions and receiving numerous trophies.

On October 4, 2025, Deacon Andy T. Brown, Sr. departed this life and entered eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 26 years, Jacqueline R. Brown, a son– Andy T. Brown, Jr. (Shaunta’), daughters-in-love - Desiree Garry, Deirdre Waldrup (DeAndre, Sr.), grandson(s), Kristian Brown, DeAndre Jr. and Devin Waldrup, one granddaughter – Deryn Waldrup; one brother – Eddie (Leon) Brown, two sister(s) – Pinkey J. Allen and Ruby J. Wesley; a loving Mother-in- law - Mae H. Goolsby, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends, all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly.
